END OF FISCAL YEAR CAMPAIGN

by East Tennessee PBS

East Tennessee PBS airs over 15 hours of locally produced programming each week. These programs serve to add a local perspective to subjects of interest. This clip is from a documentary East Tennessee PBS produced that Untold Stories of Black Women in the suffrage movement. We are able to do this work because of your financial support.

In just a short time, it feels like our world has changed so much. And through all this change, we take comfort in the people who have been with us through it all. And that is you. Your generous gifts and donations to East Tennessee PBS have allowed us to do so many things to serve our community over the years. Again, we look to you to take the lead in helping us serve our mission in a very special way.

The Covid-19 pandemic disrupted many aspects of daily life, uncovering deficiencies previously less visible. The closing of schools resulting from the crisis brought to light the educational inequity within our service footprint. East Tennessee PBS is currently helping to bridge some of these gaps by broadcasting daily curriculum-based educational programs for all students, and even those without devices, internet, cable or satellite access.

Partnering with the Tennessee Department of Education and Knox County Schools, and East Tennessee PBS quickly developed a plan and within two weeks of school closures, began providing on-air classes, serving grades K through 8. Weekdays from 8:00 am to students can access regularly scheduled classes in Arts, Physical Education, Math, Social Studies, English and Language Arts, and Science, reaching over 178,000 Tennessee students.

Having identified the vital need for an alternative provider of educational resources, East Tennessee PBS is adding a fourth sub-channel to East Tennessee PBS’s broadcast signal, which will be dedicated solely to K through 12 educational programming for Central Appalachia. Expanded resources will provide educational support and reinforcement during the regular school year, assist parents with home-schooling efforts, provide instruction for students who are not able to come to school (accident, ailment, etc.) and will be in place in preparation for future learning disruptions which is almost inevitable.

We need your help to bring this vital service to our area. We need your help to ensure all students, regardless of where they live or what their household income is – have access to the educational resources necessary for their academic success. East Tennessee PBS is uniquely positioned to immediately address this issue – with the financial support of our community and people like you.

Your support is how we are able to serve our community; nothing happens without you. As we close out our fiscal year, your donation will be more impactful than ever and will help solve this education gap our area currently faces. Please join us in being part of this solution and consider making an additional year-end donation to help us end this fiscal year strong and start the new one in the best possible shape to continue serving our neighbors in East Tennessee.

Join us in helping close this education gap in our area.
